I'm passionate about art, architecture, design. I love seeing the spirit of a picture behind its art. No matter which style was used for it, it always tells a tale :)

I never took any course to draw, I used to do it myself on my own. Now I really want to pursue this passion and I finally managed to get a course for..... the basics of drawing ^^' hahaha......

Well if you want to reach the top by foot, you always need to get their from the roof.

Zack de la Rocha - R.A.T.M.
I really loved this singer and the group before they split up. I have to guess, you all know Rage Against The Machine and their special sound, mixing Rap, Fusion, Rock, etc.. Quite an impressive band ! Always loved the energy in their music.

Have to be drawn ! :)

Hello and Happy new year everyone  ! with a late touch ... :squee:
Never too late right ? Meow :3

Soooo... for the first time I tried to sculpt something. And I must said that for a first, it was a blast !
Couldn't really know where to begin with, but as I go, "the thing" got shaped and at the end, it was something with a good ressemblance of what I wanted to do on a 1/1 scale.

Of course that not might be something, but for me it was! Just like opening a door to open to more ways of various artistic fields.

I couldn't finish it unfortunately, as there was no time, and of course I had to destroy it afterward. kinda disappointing but it is like it is.

Have a good day ! :) (Smile)

Being an artist...

... is often perceived as being messy, but have the capacity at knowing where your stuff are. Tidy this mess clean and you will never be so mean.

This is how I would start my ARTicle. It has been a long time since I was interested in Art, mainly pencil drawing but I never got the chance or the curiosity (or the means) to go beyond my paper(s) and my pencil(s) until recently.

Nevertheless, It was sufficient for me to explain everything I needed to in a paper of the size of a shoebox.

Delivering your art to this very piece of paper, was never so satisfying than punching in a piñata, and got how satisfying it is to blow your candies right up in the air.

And internet was born

There is something that struck my house one day, like a lightning, and it was my Dreamcast. I could connect to internet in 56k and have my own connection directly in my room as I was 15 years old.

And I never been so happy in my entire life to get something that was private and adult privilege. "Don't touch the computer you will break it !" or the famous "Don't touch the internet you will break my computer" was something I heard a lot, a lot... and a lot. And the classic that when the internet was not working it was always "that's the kids fault! God dammit I told them to not touch that!"

Having my very own connection in my room while not having to "break the computer down" was amazing. Besides my Dreamcast is fine.

So internet brought the comunity a tool to spread, deploy, invade our feelings with art (and other things) and gave us the opportunity to expose everything with anything. And that is how I learnt much of artists from outside my neighborhood. Pretty classic right.

But anyway i'm not really here to talk about my childhood. I'm here to give an insight of what I saw evolving through the years, independant artist making a name, from the shadows to the spotlight.

The shadows

I don't know lots of artist, independant artists whose passion bring them to fame. But I know some and I have been a regular fan of independant art and animation of people whom never intend to reach the spotlight, but putted their originality in their short animations and just only for fun, not for fame.

These ideas that was materialized into drawings, that became animated, were the core of the purpose of making them. No financial motivation, no fame looking, no recognition (beside their pairs) and sometines even.... no purpose ! But just the spreading of an emotion to people who understand the meaning of "doing something interesting" by drawing, animating, voicing, is something truly special.

I followed some interesting and fascinating artists (yeah they are) throughout the years and I cannot talk about all of them, but I will certainly take the most constrasting in evidence to match my article.

Felix Colgrave

I will not expose their personal lives, their paths, their biography and all the wherabout they come from but I will directly point to their contributions and their work (passion) that is the core of the subject. And also that made me look at them over the years.

Orginally drawing/animating under the name of MasterAardvark, Felix started animated kind of cool animations that mixed bizarre, gore and mesmerizing stuffs. Passionate about drawing and being able to make you dive into his own world by the tip of his pencil is something funny and fantastic.

His realisations were not something you would like to watch at first sight but you got to admit that it was full of charm and kind of hypnotizing.

HONK is special. There is a lot of meaning you could put and in any form you wish. But the direction it takes is powerful, funny, deep (yep), disturbing, and, most importantly, real (yep). I knew this artist before HONK but this is when it takes a turn and that it gets to your heart to actually see how it transform your vision about it, and how you can see an artist developing throughout the years. I call it the consecration point (because consecration never gets close when you ascend in your style).

Where it reaches new heights, is people from the "outside world" of the community gets in touch with Mr Colgrave to be able to express his style through their music. The Big-Bang of art, mixing music and drawings was the meteor that struck my world.

Every line, every move, every bump mean something and that makes it more significant than just a line on the paper.

One of Felix Big-Bang, was surely not the first attempt for it, as he worked with ShoE on Egg, but to keep the pace, here is one that gives virtuosity to its art:

Of course, what is impressive here is the animation, and the musicians supporting his talent. You would definitely understand his ascension to the pinnacle of his passion by viewing his work. For sure.

What else is that I'm not talking about the well known video clip for DJ Mustard, Nicki Minaj, Jeremih - Don't Hurt Me that showed that even the biggest industry gets in touch with artists from the shadows, because of their passion.

For me, that is something worth a ticket to the other side of the world and I will personnaly continue to follow his footprints.

TheWeebl

The TheWeebl started to make a lot of things, but alongside of his artistic passion for animating lines, was also making songs (and exploding the internet with watermark all over it). There is a lot to say about him and his art, but to give you the best idea, it is to simply watch one of his main music loop that depict his approach to "music videos":

Here it is. And it means a lot.

Happy music, happy panda, happy cat bombs, bombing happy people. Sounds familiar?

Certainly not.

By the way, he doesn't only make uberfun loops, but created lots of series of animations telling stories about german techno clubs lost in caves, and a hell of a lot more. I cannot be more specific.

One of his Big-Bang, one because plenty, was succesfully kickstarting Savlonic reaching more than twice the goal combining music and animation.

But to nail it, a second campaign was launch overkilling the goal again for their second album.

Truly remarkable achievement when you do not own any sponsors rather than the love of the community itself.

And all the art and animation by MrWeebl. Kudos.

SexuaLobster

(personal favorite)

A gifted artist that always had something to share, an exhibitionist of art if I dare say.

Truly someone who achieve to win hearts by art. Not possibly in the most sane way, but that being said, his contributions are insane.

He is not someone who really wants to be in the spotlight of the big eyes, but rather being the one for everyone. That is why his music and his animations, as little they might appear in their length or reach, are always as immersive as like the Titanic plunging into the depth, rock bottom.

By the way, while he makes wonderful music loops and amazing adventures (check out Pleasure Island, that is an order) he also enjoys making daring unanimous music animations with profound and worthy lyrics. The term exceptional is not enough to incense his art with a big Alpha.

Collision course

But what happens when art collides?

Lets say, MrWeebl and SexuaLobster wants to make a baby together, and live happily for ever (1:29 for puritans youtube only). What will happen?

Well, it gives birth to the beauty and the beast. In another words, a chef-d'oeuvre. Not believing me? check it out.

Warning, if you find watching babies being born by a man offensive, do not watch.

[JaimeR]

This artist scotched me to my seat when I saw his animations. Especially his very recognizable style that gives movement and amplitude to his lines. It has never been so alive.

Besides his incredible art style, he won the annual plympton award of king of Indie Animation, decerned by Bill plympton himself !

Even though I know this artist from not a very long time, I was certainly impressed by his skills and his feelings he can put into the drawings.

One of his contribution is a music clip, a very short one, for a cool track. And you can tell, he is talented.

I love the art, the morphing, the smooth animation and the all the things that makes this so full of life. The transition with merging the lines to one in another are so well executed that will make your tears dehydrated.

It gives me chills each time I'm watching it. The combination of the music and the animation is near perfection.

This is for sure, someone to look after and see his art being assured.

Jérémie Balais & Jeff Le Bars

Remember when I started my article I said that I would not talk about where they come from, but I changed my mind.

They are from the city i'm currently living in, Lyon (done).

More over, they studied at the prestigious art school Emile Cohl of Lyon. Which is where I'm actually studying art. Which is funny. Right?

They did a lot of beautiful things separately, but also together. Worked a lot on few personal projects. But also they did an outstanding work on the music clip for Caravan Palace - Lone Digger (a French music group. Which is funny. Right?)

The atmosphere, the ambiance, all of that coupled to some electro-jazz music is just beautiful. Love the keyframe choice under 24 fps to give a unique render and being able to see the details. The music is fast, funky, trippy, swingy and melodic while the animation is smooth and pointful.

The character design is also challenging and well realised. It is a win and a free tour to your best club yet.

I would be able to talk about this a lot... and a bunch more of a lot.

The spotlight

But I am just giving an insight of what I perceive as a milestone in an artist life who can get his art to get to be known in so many ways. And more specifically, into music animation in this article.

This is how I perceveid one of the best mixity of two different artistic fields, colliding together and exploding into a variety of sound and color. And it is one of the best example I could show you to see that, with passion, you can reach the right place you ought to seek inadvertedly.

Here it is, finally, the spotlight of the dancefloor. Thanks to all of you who makes my day a brighter one with your contributions.
